Yes you can learn from other's mistakes, the question is, are you willing to put what you've learned into practice - to incorporate it into your own life?
Your sister is arrested for shoplifting and is banned from entering that store again. She has to appear in court, make restitution, do time in jail and will be on probation. She made a mistake. You learn that shoplifting is not without negative consequences.
You dad has smoked all his life. He develops lung cancer. You see all the suffering he went through and the pain it caused your mother as well. The lesson from the example is not to smoke.
Your brother has a lot of one night stands for sex. He thinks it's not macho to wear a condom. Now he's dying of AIDS. His mistake has taught you that a condom should be worn EVERY TIME.

Yes, I think it is possible to learn from others mistakes...but it's not always easy. By nature humans are prideful and sometimes it takes us personally screwing up to actually realize that what we did was wrong. Example for this is driving without a seat belt on. Many people have died because of this, but yet many still do it. I have learned though, through my sister's mistake, to be very cautious of whom I meet online. So, yes it is possible and many of us would probably be better off if we learned from others mistakes as well as our own.

Of course you dont have to make the same mistakes others made - make your own new mistakes! It's stupid not to learn from others' mistakes because that's what they are for - to teach us.
I have learnt that you should never do anything that you'll regret when you are older. Always ask yourself whether the memory will be a pleasant one or one full of guilt.

Oh yeah....once a person loses the mentality that bad things only happen to other people, that is. Until then, a lot of bad stuff can happen and mistakes can be made....sometimes merely because we think we can do the same thing and get different results (which, by the way, is one definition for stupidity).

I think it may depend on your personality. I'm the kind of person who had to learn the hard way, by making all the mistakes I should have known better than to attempt. Call me stubborn, I guess.

U are in what u believe in...
I totally believe that the smart people who has that majic power to go on with life and to make ur dreams come true as earlies as possible is can be done by noticing what are the multiple mistakes that people always fall down for ... and not to make it coz we are all human beings and what happens to them could happen to me ...
so as for one of the things that I notice that alot of the girls rash to get married at some certain age just so as not to be single as it is ashame or something so they do not pay attention to what really could benefit them in the future like studying and making some experiene for them in the society or in the work as for example ,,, so they rash to get married and if they have dreams they drop it so as to be wifes and to have love and so on ... forgetting that love and marrige could happen at anytime but like taking some degree will make u something out of u as ahuman being and if they think right that they will have much stable life if they have adegree and ahusband coz she will be more supportive to him and more giving to him and to her children than a mom that does not have adegree that will regret one day for letting her life for some social picture that she could have it at any time later after several years ... and at that time they will not be that young to start over and after all the children will grow up and they will have their own life then she will regret it all coz if she has done soemthing for her she would have somethings that she can refill her life with .... so that is what i saw when i saw my mom and her freinds regretting preferring marriage on continue working and making some degrees that is why i sweard to my self if i wanna abetter daughter and abtter lover and mom and as asupportive wife I would do somethign and earn some degrees so as my family and my husband and children in the future will be proud of me ... as I will for my self ... and thank u for that beautiful question ... god bless

I've learned to treat my kids with respect and not judging everything they do by working in a head start and seeing the results of this treatment I've learned there is no bad kids just bad behavior and if you give children respect and talk to them you solve more than just saying that kid is bad

Yes you can learn from mistakes made by someone else if you are willing to learn. As that old saying
goes: those who do not learn from mistakes often
repeat them. Examples: Driving while drunk- if you
see someone else's totaled car and attend their
funeral then refuse to drink and drive you have
learned from someone else's mistake.

Yes! Because when you see the mistakes that other people have made and you see all that they had to suffer (consequences) that should motivate you not to do that certain thing.
