I think that it's the history of the job, traditionally (not that I'm in agreement) this type of work is seen as womens work, men are not attracted to the job because of social stigma relating to it.

I agree that the hours of work are probably more appropriate to women with children, or older ladies that only want to work a few hours a week.

I know quite a few dinner ladies. They see it as a part time job - tha pay is the minimum wage - means they bring in a little bit of money and are at home with the kids.
Many of them love being with small children. I know I do.

Because its low paid work that men would never consider doing, even at home men expect the dinner on the table, i really don't see them dishing it out in schools.
