Tell your teacher instead of answering a question that is going to mean nothing you would like to suggest the class (school) does a project to help stop Modern Slavery. You say you didn't know about modern slavery? Well, now you do, anyone who has had such a issue with slavery as the Afro-Americans should be studying the issue and organizing bans, boycotts and marches. Lets' start with the number two (2) area that being Chocolate, you should ensure that your family, friends and school boycott Chocolate that means candy, ice cream and hot chocolate, etc. The big companies have the power to make sure the Egyptians and others quit using slaves to gather the Coca Beans.

The number one (1) area is the sex trade, videos, prostitution and children. You cannot do much there but you could ensure the issue becomes publicized.

Number three (3) is Coffee and you should do the same thing as you should do with chocolate.

Number four (4) is drugs and it is even worse with this area (I believe they should be legalized; it worked in the Netherlands and would be a God sent to the Country) is that the profits are used to kill us.

Yes, I am against slavery are you? God Bless You and The Southern People.

Hey Deedee343,

From my perspective the benefits is saving the life and liberty of a fellow human being!

The danger varied. If you were discovered harboring a slave in the south, you would probably have been hung, shot, or both. In the north, well - your neighbors would shun you at a minimum.

This also depends when in the 1800's.

Depends on where you lived. The Quakers were often willing to harbor a slave and help him along the way. They didn't talk about it because it was against the law, but they saw it as their duty to their fellow man.

In the north, you could be fined or imprisoned for helping a runaway. It was considered stealing a man's property and bore the same punishments.

In the south hanging, shooting, and such were the penalties. There were still people that risked it, but many were slaves themselves and THEY wouldn't be killed.

I had an ancestor who was a Quaker minister who would go lead groups of slaves out of the south. He did alot to help the "underground railroad" move slaves. According to family records he was caught a couple of times. He usually talked his way out of being hung but to teach him a lesson, the local slave owners had his ears and toes cut off and he also lost a few fingers off of his hands. He was almost beaten to death a couple of times and burned. I am proud that he is a part of my family tree.

to be honest there were really no benefits for saving sklaves during the 1800's becuase its not like there is a reward for it and its not like the blacks had any money or anything like that to spare so the only people who really helped them were people who were kind enought to help them out of the goodness of their heart especially if you put your life at risk becuase it was punishable quite heavily down in the south
