Women's fertility peaks in their early twenties, and often deteriorates after 30. Of women trying to get pregnant, without using fertility drugs:

At age 30, 75% will get pregnant within one year, and 91% within four years.
At age 35, 66% will get pregnant within one year, and 84% within four years.
At age 40, 44% will get pregnant within one year, and 64% within four years.

In other words, if you're trying for a baby, it's not as easy as it once was; but if you're trying *not* to make a baby, you still need to use contraception until you'res sure you've been through the menopause!

I read a rather simplistic article that stated that it was ten times harder to get pregnant at 40 than it is at 20 and a 40 year old is 10 times more likely to lose the baby than a 20 year old. Best of luck.

It can happen, but it is hard. Many of your eggs are too old to be fertilized. The ones that do fertilize run the risk of being damaged. You do have a chance to get pregnant and have a healthy child, but your body and eggs are not the same as a younger woman.

If this is your first pregnancy, then it will be really painful so I would recommend to talk your doctor. If it's not, then it's easy to get pregnant until the age of 47.
