is there any free parking within walking distance of the dome?
hubby and i have tickets for the december 24th game and really dont want to pay the high prices for parking at the dome.
we had heard that there is free parking at the metrolink station 2 blocks away, as long as you can prove that you are attending the game

Hopefully I can help.

I live on Washington Ave downtown. There is SOME free parking, but you won't find it in a lot anywhere near walking distance from the Dome. The free parking is available on the actual streets (free toll on weekends), but you'll need to get there very early.

Parking in a lot can cost as much as $20, and that's several blocks away from the Dome at Washington and 11th and St Charles and 11th.

If you're willing to show up early and park on the street, there is a Starbucks on Washington and 8th? (I think) to warm up before trekking to the Dome.

Have fun, and go Rams!

The only free parking is street side in some locations if you get there early enough. Some people park on the grass between the Dome and highway, but I am not sure if those guys get ticketed or not. Beyond that, you have to pay for parking, but most cost 10-15 bucks for event parking. I park at a place on the riverfront, it is 15 and it is really easy to get onto the Eads Bridge.

If you want to stay downtown, the Drury Inns are reasonable and very comfortable. We live here and put up out of town relatives there all the time. You can walk to the Dome from one of these Drury Hotels. I wouldnt recommend shopping downtown except for Macys. I would get on Highway 40 and get off at Brentwood and go north a block to the Galeria shopping mall. It has lots of good stores. Right accross Brentwood from the Galeria is another shopping center with stores like Crate and Barrel etc. Just south of Highway 40 on Brentwood is a shopping center with lots of other stores including a Target and Trader Joes. REI sports store is also on Brentwood. Enjoy your visit. Hope the snow doesnt spoil your plans.
