It toally depends on where you live. The area I live in northern Wisconsin supplies many of the trees that go out town for sale. If I do buy a tree I pay about $15-20 for it. These are the same trees that are selling for $50-70 out of town in the big cities. The great thing about mine they weren't cut weeks in advance. I cut my own at the plantation. You just might live in a area that is sparse for trees in general. So the price is going to be totally different than one that isn't.
Also there is a big price difference where you actually buy them from. Go to a greenhouse or a local lot & the prices can range drastically.

A 6 foot tree should cost no more than $20. Home Depot sells them and when Christmas is over you can bring the tree back to them and they will chop it into mulch for you.

Depends. Are you cutting it yourself or buying it precut? What kind of tree are you buying (Douglas Fir? Balsam Fir? Frasier Fir? Colorado Blue Spruce? Scotch Pine?)? How big of a tree do you want? Are you buying from a private seller or to support a charity, which generally charge more? What country do you live in? If the USA, what area of the country?

it all depends what kind of tree it is and where did it come from . in north carolina we grow frasier firs in north carolina the average for a 6-7ft tree can be 42-54 dollars . the same tree shipped out of state could be 80-100 dollars. . best advice is find the native tree of your area and support those growers and your tree will be cheaper all around and you are supporting someones family .

Real trees are the best ..the smell of pine really gets you in tune with the season ......To answer your question....don't go to one of these big stores to get one...they overprice them...remember it will die... try to find a small lot that sells them...you can get a really great one for 30-65 bucks.. I just bought a 7 1/2 foot really full tree for 35 bucks...

Wellf you get a taller tree with less branches, it will be in the $35- $50 range. If it's very full and, say, 6' tall, it'll easily be in the range of $69.99 to $77.
