Essentially what has to happen is this. I have a directory that contains a pdf file. The pdf file is updated once a month but the filename changes. Is it posible to make a hyperlink that just will open any *.pdf file on that directory. Considering there is only one pdf file in there......

No, you can't. You will have to create a page with a script that will pick up the right file and create a link.

Also if it's the only file in there, why not rename it when you update so it will have the same name? Then you can use a static link.

Just make sure there are no HTML files in the directory with the PDF and just make the link with the path to the directory, not the filename. Users will get a listing of files in that directory, which will include the PDF, no matter what the filename is.
