if this is an LCD screen then you have a backlight problem.

This doesn't normally happen on CRTs

if this is on a laptop, check your lid switch (try prodding it with the tip of a biro)

There are two possibilties:

First, you monitor is dying, shop for a replacement.

Second, and my most favorite, is you might be the victim of a practical joke. If you have the older CRT monitor (big, not flat and thin) then by maliciousness or accident, the brightness has been adjusted. Does it have knobs along the bottom? Check there. If is has an on screen menu, you'll need to get into that to adjust the brightness. The on screen menu trick works for flat panels too.

A common problem with Flat Panel (LCD) monitors. Can be repaired, but usually cheaper to buy a new monitor, unless it's a laptop.

For new monitors check:

Good luck

Have U tried adjusting it by the buttons on your monitor usually at bottom of it! If these don't do
the job.. U just might have to get another monitor. U can get a refurbished one cheaply
at a 2nd hand Store or Thrift Store!

Sounds like you have burn in on your monitor. The ghosting happens if you don't have a screensaver going. That's why they're called screensavers - they save your screen from burn in and ghosting of images that aren't actually there from happening.

Try unplugging your monitor and letting it rest for an hour or so, and turning it back on. That MIGHT help, if the ghosting is still there, your monitor is ruined and you'll have to get a new one if the problem is too noticeable.

Don't forget to get a screensaver going!
