Doesn't help in conception. Does help in the babies development though and in preventing certain birth defects. If you're trying to get pregnant, start taking multi vits (materna) with folic acid now.

The answer is debatable a study in the UK recently found that the woman taking folic acid prior to conception actually had more chance of getting pregnant that ones who didn't. Therefore it could be said it helps to conceive, I believe there is further research confirming this going on at the moment.
And yes like previously said it won't do you any harm and you are supposed to take it for 3 months prior to conceiving anyway so start taking now.

From what I have read, it does NOT help with actual conception, however it is EXTREMELY important you are taking it before.
Folic acid, sometimes called folate, is a B vitamin (B9) found mostly in leafy green vegetables like kale and spinach, orange juice, and enriched grains. Repeated studies have shown that women who get 400 micrograms (0.4 milligrams) daily prior to conception and during early pregnancy reduce the risk that their baby will be born with a serious neural tube defect (a birth defect involving incomplete development of the brain and spinal cord) by up to 70%.
The most common neural tube defects are spina bifida (an incomplete closure of the spinal cord and spinal column), anencephaly (severe underdevelopment of the brain), and encephalocele (when brain tissue protrudes out to the skin from an abnormal opening in the skull). All of these defects occur during the first 28 days of pregnancy - usually before a woman even knows she's pregnant.

I wanted to ask the exact same question and then I saw someone else post the same question. but anway some people said folic acid does help you concieve and some said it has nothing to do with concieving but helps with baby's growth.
BUT I M VERY CONFUSED TO WHAT TO LISTEN TO. BUT I AM ALSO TRYING TO CONCIEVE AND I HAVE ALREADY STARTED FOLIC ACID..ITS ALMOST A WEEK NOW!!
I HOPE I CONCIEVE SOON! WISH ME GOOD LUCK!

all women of childbearing age should take a prenatal vitamin daily. They contain folic acid which women need a lot of. I dont know if it necessarily helps get pregnant, but if you do and are already taking the vitamins, you have a better chance of a fully pregnancy and not a miscarriage.

Folic acid (folate) doesn't necessarily make it easier to conceive. It does, however, facilitate the growth of a healthy child. It lessens the likely-hood of having a child born with neurological defects such as spina bifida.

Its not that its needed to conceive but once the egg has been fertilized it is vital in the first few weeks of development. So anyone trying to conceive should be taking a daily prenatal vitamin... just to be sure your getting the needed vitamins.
I hope that helps! And if you are trying to conceive some good websites on fertility, conception, and things of that nature are babyzone.com, webmd.com, babycenter.com.... Good Luck!

It helps with the planting of the fertilized egg to the wall of the uterus. The uterus wall has to be "sticky" for the egg to "attach". This helps the egg get the nutrients it will need to grow into your child. My doctor always said to take it and I've never heard of it harming anyone.

It does not help you conceive, though it does help with the baby's developing neural tube, which ends up being the spinal cord! All women of childbearing age should take vitamins!!

It doesn't help you conceive, it's just good to have it in your body because it's so important for early fetal development - especially the two weeks we wait before we even know we're pregnant.
