It depends on what finish is on the floor. Varnish, tung oil, polyeurathane. You have to identify your finish and see what cleaners are best suited. Murphy's Oil Soap is a real good all around wood cleaner.

I used to work at an old antique house and we only used white vinegar in hot water on the hardwood floors. A lot of people like Murphy's oil soap too. (it sure does smell better!!)

From experience I can tell you the best that worked for me is Murphy's Wood cleaner. It is soapy, but yet it has an oil base to it. So that it cleans the wood and at the same time puts oil on it to preserve it.

Vinegar and water. About a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water. Once you use like a bowling alley wax, you have to keep on using bowling alley wax. Murphy's oil soap is okay.
