I certainly don't believe Britney spears or any other big name artist will be returning my calls any time soon. I don't want to use whole songs, just clicks of certain songs. Is there anything in the law that says clips of songs can be used or aren't copy writable?

That is leagal.

I learned this while I in Yearbook back in high school,
You can use a copy written symbol or peice of writing if it is Changed up to 20%, or you do not use the item in it;'s entirety.
So what you explained is completely leagal. Good Luck, and your right,
I doubt Brittany Spears is going to be calling you back.

An entire song is copywriten. And if you are caught using even a few riffs from the original, you can get into legal trouble. Now this all depends on what you are using the clips for. If you are say using them at a school talent competition, or at a function along those lines, it is ok. But if you are using the clips at a major event or something along those lines, then you can get into some very hot water. Even if you cut a demo with a hook from the original song, you have to pay royalties.

Nope. They are under copyright. Small portions can be used for reviews and discussion, but not to make money directly. A reasonable amount can be used, that definition is open to interpretation.

You can contact the clearinghouse and get permission, check the labels and music for the appropriate place.

As long as no more than like 4 measures are copied, it's ok to use it. You cannot use a song in its entirety without getting the copyright permission.

it depends on what you are using it for. if you plan on making a mixture of songs out of clips and saying it is yours then yes you can get in trouble. but if you just want to recorda clip here for a film or something give credit where credit is due or you will be in trouble yet again.
