I prefer gifts that someone put their heart into. Regardless of whether it has been made or purchased, it depends on how much effort they put into personalizing the gift for me, rather than just buying a gift for me because they felt obligated.....

I like handmade better. It's made from the heart. Knowing that someone took the time and care to make something special for you makes it more meaningful. I used to buy 1 good ornament for my Christmas tree each year figuring that in time I would have all good and expensive ornaments. But gradually I received handmade special ornaments from people that now decorate my tree and I must say that each one of them holds a special meaning or memory and they are more valuable to me then any store bought one.

It totally depends.
I know I busted my a** this past weekend baking Christmas cookies, and the recipients ALWAYS appreciate the effort I put into making them (as well as the results). I'm sure I'd feel the same way if somebody sent me homemade cookies, too...even if they turned out poorly.
And last year a friend handknit a scarf as a Christmas present for me - she made everyone else little scarves that took maybe two hours to knit with that eyelash yarn, but made me a long (long!) woolen scarf that I suspect took dozens of hours to knit because she knew I wanted something like it (in specific colors) that I couldn't find in stores. I appreciated that!

I would much prefer something made, something from the heart! It would be made with love..like the way successful chefs run great restuarants..with love and care, putting their heart and soul into everything about the finished product.I do that into my home, and into gifts I buy for my friends,or even if I get them at a thrift store..the things I find are what the recipient would appreciate..and show them that I remembered what they asked for and said to me about their needs, etc.

Handmade. I have many things made out of love that my children have given me through the years. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you see the look of excitement on their face.

Handmade comes from the heart, in my opinion!!
Now if it's a gift for my Grands, Fisher Price puts it together much better than I.
