You're going to have to be a little more specific than that. For example, give a specific equation that has x and y in them. Otherwise, they are simply veriables and don't really have a meaning other than being a place to plug numbers into.

You have got to be much clearer in your question. There are many designations for x and y. They can designate functions, like f(x) or f(x,y) or they can designate coordinates in a plane. What are you really looking for?

your question is vague, but I think you mean X represents the horizontal component of a vector, and Y is the vertical component of a vector
