the land breeze is caused when the air over the water is warmed by the water thus rising up. The cooler air over the land then moves out to replace the rising air over the water. Hence a land breeze. This normally occurs at night when the air over the land cools faster than that over the water.

I didn't think wind was connected to the fact one's near water. It's just caused by different pressure levels in the atomosphere; the phenomenon of wind is an attempt to regain equlibrium between these levels. Perhaps you experience the wind near sea because there's a higher expectancy for the pressure to vary.
