Males can get one...drink lots of cranberry juice to relieve discomfort. An enzyme in the juice prevents bacteria that cause the infection from being happy in your urinary tract. If it does not clear up on its own within 24 hours or if you pass any blood you should see a doctor ASAP.

Yes,the cause, urine is normally sterile but under certain circumstances bacteria, often E0coli that live in the colon, moves into the urethra causing an infection called urethritis. The infection may move up the system to the bladder, called cystitis,or to the kidneys, pyelonephritis.
Micro organisms called chlamydia can both be transmitted sexually. When this happens both partners have to be treated for the infection.prostates are more prone to urinary infection.
Men who have catheter or tube placed in the bladder are more susceptible to infection.
Men with diabetes or any disease that suppresses the immune system are more prone to UTI.
You can buy books that offer home remedies, but i suggest going to the Doctors.

Males and females can get it simply by a change in diet.
There is relief for it. It is presecribed by your doctor. Typically, they will prescripe Septra.
