Hi!

I saw this neat craft and want to try it. Bean filled (?) slippers and shawls you microwave and use to ease sore muscles or just to keep warm while sitting watching tv, etc. What material is inside these things. These felt like some kind of "bean". Thanks!

Various things can be used... some are larger or smaller so the final stuffed item will drape differently, some keep heat longer than others, some have scents from added herbs or essential oils), etc.

Some popular fillers are:

rice, buckwheat, flax seed, barley
cherry pits
small gravel for aquariums

Look in the Sources below for some websites that could be helpful.

They use wholewheat grains in little bags to put in the microwave to ease sore muscles or use like a hot water bottle, could that be what you are looking for? If so a word of warning, every now and then a little pot of water should be put in the microwave, along with the item, or the wheat dries out too much and can catch fire!

I've had great success with rice! I know some people use lavendar or flax seed. Please though, do NOT use marbles as was previously suggested. The glass could explode in the microwave.

Sand or marbles would probably hold the heat better than beans would.
