There are special reset tools sold for BMWs' that allow you to reset the oil and engine service interval lights. I used to have such a tool for my 1990 M3, because I had the oil changed and the engine serviced at a regular foreign car mechanic's shop, not at the dealer. If you want to buy one of these devices, you can get one from the following aftermarket dealer called Bavarian Autosport. But, please realize that if your check engine light comes on due to something wrong with your car, it will stay lit until you fix it. The onboard computer will keep sensing something is wrong and will keep the light on until you get the problem fixed. Also, your car may not pass inspection in many states with the new rules in place regarding the engine light, such as here in NY.

You need to have the car hooked up to a diagnostic machine to figure out what sensor is bad, If you just change random pieces without the check it could run into big bucks, the check will get it right the first time.

Think you will waste your money its probably your Lambda sensor but as other have said you need a trouble code to indicate problem. If you are American i think you call it an oxygen sensor. Your check light will not go out until fault fixed and trouble code cleared Regards Mick UK work on Beemers.

NEVER repeat NEVER replace a part till you know the problem. Throwing money at it won't solve the problem. A '92 is probably obd1. You need someone to scan your trouble codes and see what you have wrong.

do a yahoo search for bmw stomp test. if your check engine light is on doing the stomp test will tell you what is triggering it, then fix accordingly. i have it a feeling it might be the o2 sensor.
