I can't answer for other people, but I am currently looking to buy a VCR, just a plain VCR. And I plan to use it so I can tape television shows so I can watch later when I can't see them. Which just happens to be one of the main uses of the VCR. In all seriousness though, I'd say yes people are still buying VCRs since, I plan on buying one in the relative future.

I bought another VCR a couple a months back because it was going for dirt cheap. Even though I own a DVD player, I'd prefer to watch VHS tapes on my VCR anyday. I hate these DVD discs they scratch up like crazy and skip and finally don't play anymore, and the price is much more expensive. I love how everyone has ignored VHS tapes because now I can go in the store and get them for a little of nothing.. all the good old movies are on VHS tapes anyway.

I actually just did. I got my daughter one of those barbie cam Cord'ers for Christmas and it works like a portable phone, and it record directly onto the tape in the VCR. Played h*ll trying to find just a VCR though. all of them had a DVD player with it.

Look-- you either throw away money on a machine that transfers VCRs to disc OR you buy a machine that plays DVDs AND VCRs; ORyou throw away thousands of hours of movies, sports games and the Simpsons, episodes of which are selling for $40.00 a season. Does THAT answer your question?

Yes because before we had a DVD player we had a lot of movies on VHS. All of my kids' old cartoons like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and so on are all on VHS. I don't see any reason for those to go to waste just because we have DVDs. As long as they want to watch those older movies and cartoons we'll have a VCR.

I don't think VCR only units are availble in stores anymore. I am pretty sure they don't even make VHS anymore. Soon there won't be DVD even they are replacing with Blu-ray which is almost like DVD but can't be copied at all or at least as easy.

My family has a VCR/DVD combo -- it's pretty cool if you want to watch older movies but my preference is the DVD.
