They have 8 mediocre teams including Florida who barely escaped with victorys against most of them

While the Big Ten has 3 powerhouses and a mediocre team in Penn St. that would probably beat Florida

The Big Ten schools have traditionally beat each other up to the point where there usually was one favorite and a handful of strong also-rans who, because they ended up with a couple losses in conference, never got much credit.

The SEC is like that today. Getting through a conference with Florida, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas and, most years, Alabama is no snap. Depending on who's got it going on each year and whether you're playing them home or away a strong team can still end up with a couple losses. They have some twinkies in there every year (the Mississippi schools, UK, Vandy) just like the Big Ten (this year: the Illiana corridor: Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern) but its not the soft part of the schedule that matters.

You made the best point for the SEC being the best conference. The #2 team in the country only barely beat most of those other SEC teams, because there is great parity. Most of them were very good games and anybody can beat anybody. Florida won all but one, which they could have won as well if it wasn't for a controversial call, and is therefore the second best team in the country and deserves to play in the championship game. Why do you think Ohio St., Michigan, and Wisconsin had good records? Cause of all those garbage teams in the conference they can beat up on.Wow Michigan beat Notre Dame, so what, who else did they beat? Ohio St. got lucky they got Texas early, they would not have beaten them after McCoy got more experienced and familiar with the offense. Other than Texas, who did Ohio St. beat? Wisconsin is not a powerhouse either. The only good team they played beat them. Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Miss State would have went 11-1 with that kind of schedule.

haha, maybe you missed the fact that wisconsin loaded up against cupcake teams, and that no one else in that conference is anywhere near being ranked. the sec is the best conference, because the worst sec team has more talent than the worst team from any other conference. it's not necessarily the very top teams, but the overall depth. any team in that conference can beat any other team, that's how good eveyr team in the sec is. and of course the fact that the sec has 3 teams in the top 10 and 5 teams in the top 25 in every poll just means that the writers and coaches whose livelihoods depend football and their knowledge of football actually don't know as much about football as you. i would take florida, lsu, auburn, arkansas, and tennessee against any other conference's top five teams, you really think that penn state and purdue can match up against arkansas and tennessee? that would be the worst bet ever. and smoothie, have you ever seen an sec game? if so, you must have missed the fact that the sec has the biggest strongest, fastest, most athletic defenses in the country. playing in the sec is no cupcake walk like playing illinois, michigan state, and northwestern is.

First off everyone doesn't say it. The people most likely to say it are SEC fans. The truth is the SEC teams have had about average performance in BCS games. If the SEC is as good as people say then let's see what Florida can do but wait they are an 8 point dog haha when the money is on the line perscpective is clear.

I somewhat agree, when the SEC is willing to come up north and take a physical beating from a Big Ten team than maybe then they can claim to be the best conference. Because win or lose your team is going to take a beating from a Big Ten team, just ask Joe Paterno. When Penn State first joined the conference after being a independent he commented about not realizing how much of a physical game the Big Ten plays every week. Florida will learn this when they line up against OSU in the Fiesta Bowl, they better make sure they have their helmets strapped on tight.

LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, and Teneesee all in the top 17. You are smoking crack if you think Penn State could beat Florida. There is a reason all thoes people say SEC is the best conference, b/c they know what they are talking about and you don't.

6 teams in the Big Ten this year finished at or below .500.

If you think Penn State could even stay on the same field as Florida, you're full of it.
