Depends on the exact color of silver. But I wouldn't go with black, white, silver, red, or any other popular formal colors. I would use something non-traditional to enhance the dress.
Lighter silvers, go with darker colored shoes, bag, and wrap. Try plum, burgundy, wine, navy, etc...
Darker silvers, go with brighter colored shoes, bag, and wrap. Try pink, lavender, lilac, aqua, etc...

Notice I said wrap. A jacket would hide the neckline of the dress. A shawl, wrap, scarf, etc... would show off the dress, and still offer some warmth. Try cashmere, faux fur, or wool blends if it's going to be chilly there. Obviously, this is not a substitute for a good coat if the temperature will be very cold.

Use your best judgment, and go with what you like best. If you like it, then you'll be happy. Happy means confidence, and it shows. Which is the most attractive thing a woman can do for herself.

Have fun!

go to a fabric store and get a piece of silver organza and turn the edges and stitch them to make a nice wrap. you need to make it as close to the colour of the dress as possible -- do not go with black or red as it will draw attention away from your dress and all you will see is the black. If you want to add some colour -- get some small black crystal-type earrings and a bracelet. Simple is more stylish

you should go for black if you wanna tone it down and pink if you wanna look a lil flashy but not over done. And as for the jacket, you should ditch boleros as thet are so last season and go for the latest waist coats or hooded half jeans jackets that are in this season.

Try a shawl and makesure the fabric doesn't contrast toomuch with the dress, unless it's fur. You can go with about any color, but it will look more put together if you have a nice clutch in the same color.
