How would you know if a person is rich?
Say, you don't see their car or the amount of money they're carrying on them. How will you be able to tell if the person is a big shot?

Why would you want to know?
A few rich people talk about how much money they have (or things like their latest trips to exotic and expensive resorts), wear designer clothing, and flash Rolexes. But most rich people I've known have done none of those things and act like the ordinary human beings they are. Then they casually invite you to their house and it's a mansion - but by then you like them (or not) for who they are, not their bank balance.
I can think of no valid reason for wanting to know another person's net worth. I've always heard that those who marry for money EARN every penny they get,

getting his (or her) last name often helps
geography can be an indicator, too
if you live in flyover territory (excluding spots like palm springs, tahoe) it's unlikely you're going to have contact with anyone who is, as you say, "rich"
