My thoughts on the flag is that I wonder why it is still flying at various courthouses in the south. I wonder if the government keeps it flying as a reminder for certain Americana's to stay in there place. Or I wonder if it is a reminder to us to never forget what this country was built on and the possibility of it returning to that one day. I personally feel that the Confederate flag should have be desecrated in 1865. The south lost the war and the flag has no significance in today's society. Anyone who is proud of that flag is just showing there allegiance of being a total loser.

Those who claim it to be "Just a flag" or that it's a part of our heritage have a VERY confused and perverse sense of what they should be proud. Hello, Slavery? Andersonville Prison? An economic system that even then was out moded? The German's don't still fly the Nazi flag and honestly, the two flags equate out to just about the same thing. So, they lost the war. THIS is something in which to take pride? Of all of the good and great things the south has to offer, the Rebel Flag and for what it stands is not one of them.
And incidently, I LIVE in the DEEP SOUTH.

I lived contained in the south for 10 years. The accomplice flag got here to intend that the southerners were no longer happy with being part of america. They needed a feudal gadget the position some prosperous and useful human beings had existence or demise ability over the operating type. It would not characterize any element helpful. purely oppression and lawlessness. The longer i change into contained in the south the further I got here to despise that flag and the evil it stood for. I think its use today is despicable and insensitive. It is too strongly reminiscent of slavery. I also realize that the Civil War was not just about slavery, but about "state's rights." As much as I oppose the image it provokes, I support people's right to use the flag as they wish, just as I support people's right to desecrate the United States flag. I do believe however that it should no longer be used in state flags. Georgia and Mississippi, especially Mississippi have flags based on flags of the Confederate States of America. My home state of Florida along with Alabama have flags that may or may not be references to the CSA.
After I submitted my answer I saw tham153's response. I was disgusted. 2,335 US military personnel and 68 civilians were killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. During WWII there were 407,300 US military deaths and 11,200 US civilian deaths. The two atomic bombs killed 110,000 to 150,000 people instantly almost all of which were civilians. I hope you are only joking.

it's a flag; it represents a time in history that has passed; you can't change history because you don't like what happened; the Jews don't go ballistic if they see a German flag so why should blacks in America act so ignorant when they see a Confederate flag; I don't complain when I see someone in the US with an Italian or Irish flag or flag of an African country!

As a southern girl I'm here to tell you that it's JUST A PART OF HISTORY. I don't think people should find it offensive, I don't think we should be asked NOT to fly the flag...it's the flag of my fore-fathers and I'm proud of it. Now don't' get me wrong, I'm not proud of the slavery that once happened where I'm from, it was a terrible, horrible thing. But, to me that has NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING to do with the flag..

It's only a piece of cloth. Although it many symbolize slavery to some or southern pride to others it remains simply a piece of cloth. The local university in my town is thinking of changing it's mascot of over 50 years to something other than the COLONELS because it has been decided that it's too southern for some tastes. Where do we draw the line?

I think of the valor, courage and doomed cause of the Virginia regiments under Pickett as they stormed a hill on July 3, 1863 at 1:pm in the afternoon....but that's just me.

It is a part of our history and heritage, even though to many blacks, it is a symbol of slavery.
I have no problems with it, as long as it is used for the proper reasons and not just done to rub people's noses in it
