My best friend asked me this and i couldn't come up with an answer. The baby is 16 months old. Her crib is in the mothers room. She just learned to walk and only knows a couple words but not very well.

Too old at any age. I don't even like to do it when the cats are in the room. Man, I get flashes of memory from when I was an infant. I'd hate to think that my parents doing it in the bed next to me would be one of those!

Good question. My son is 6 months old and he still sleeps in our room. We have sex in the room but only if he is sleeping. I think by the time he is a year old we won't be doing that anymore. He probably won't be in our room much longer either. I think as long as the lights are off everything is ok but if the child can walk to your bed I wouldn't recommend doing it at that age.

I don't think it's ever appriate to have sex infront of a child no matter their age. That's why they make baby monitors. Once a baby can sleep at least most of the night with out waking up it is time for them to move into their own room.
A friend of mine has a 6 month old and he sleeps from 8:30pm to 6:00am and has been in his own room since he was about 2 weeks old.

Why must you have sex in the same room?
Anyways,if the baby cant pull up and see than I guess its okay. Bt what about the noise? I guess if its quiet sex and not loud and wild. 16 mos is too old to be watching people have sex.

People are so repressed in America, it's unbelievable. Other cultures, whole generations are in one house, the family bed and breastfeeding for years. People are married young, have arranged marriages with cousins, give birth at home. Before the repressive Victorian age, folks in America were like this too.

Not that I agree with all of this. I don't want to live with my entire family in a four room house or marry my cousin - but good grief.
Here, it's risque to have sex with a sleeping newborn in the same room? How sad is that?

I don't think there is a specific age, just like there's not a specific age to have sex for the first time, get married, start potty training, stop breastfeeding, these are all decisions made by the individual or based on the individual child. I would think if the child is in a deep sleep, you have more leeway, but definitely a baby under a year old sleeping or not isn't going to be a concern. Personally, I wouldn't do it unless the kid was sleeping because I don't like an audience. But that's just me.

I would tell her that to be safe i would stop now. I don't know how early memories develope, and she probably wouldn't remember because she doesn't know what they are doing. But i still wouldn't take a chance at it if i had a baby. I know that i am 21 and remember things from as early as 3 years old.

My son was barely one when I was watching TV and he saw a couple kissing on the mouth. He came to me and kiss me in the same manner, head movements and all! Children learn by what they are seeing, I believe 3 - 6 months is ideal!

I would say that any age is to young to have in the same room that your parents are having sex in.

I wouldn't do it at any age! Whether we think they are able to comprehend is irrelevant. There is just something morally wrong with that, in my opinion. As for the person who said 2 years old, I can remember stuff from when I was 2! God forbid if I ever remembered something like that!
