I am a single pregnant mom of a 6 year old boy, i am unemployed and very concerned about how i am going to buy gifts for my son and still pay my mortgage and other household bills, does anyone know where i can get help or does anyone want to help me out? Times are so hard right now, if anyone can help god bless you!
There is one program that will help me where i live but i apply every year and it doesn't help much. Thanks

You have some good answers here...

Have you heard of FreeCycle?

If there's a reasonably active group where you live, regular participation will make a difference in your budget, I promise. Just don't forget to give away what you can no longer use!

Even though you talk about gifts for Christmas, I'm hoping your priority is how to pay your mortgage and bills first. Your son needs a warm house with a loving mother in it much more than a toy car or Pokemon.

If this is a temporary unemployment, the quickest way is to apply for and exhaust your unemployment benefits. If the unemployment is long term (1yr or more) and your benefits have ran out, then you're probably desperate for cash. Fortunately, most retailers are increasing their staff for the holiday season. Even if you live in a small town, your local store probably needs extra help right now.

I would go to the church where you live, they may can assist you finding employment and help with gifts. Have you applied for state assistance until you actually find a job. Also, what about family. I have been here before, believe me things will be taken care of some how. You could also contact the local salvation army, they help families every year, we donate money at walmart everytime I have to go in there. I would also call your chambers of commerce and find out if they have any listings for programs and assistance. I barely survive as it is but thank god people around me get me through the rough times.

I am sorry to hear that. Although there are many places in every community to get help for the holidays and any other time you may need it. Get in contact with social services and they can give you a list of charities and ect. I don't think you should ask people over the internet for financial help! People will ask themselves if times are so hard then why is she sitting on yahoo answers all day and not out looking for a job or some assistance!I hope all works out for you and your children!

Children do not need to be showered with gifts to appreciate the meaning of Christmas. Go to the local good-will store and you can buy toys at a huge discount, or find a local toy-swap in your area.Maybe your church and adopt you as their needy family this year. Ask your pastor. Always pay your mortage and bills before buying toys. Toys won't matter if you don't have a place to live to keep them.

Contact "toys for tots" as well as the salvation army. Any kind of charity that has toy drives will know what you can do. You can also ask around at the church, most pastors will be able to refer you to a place such as the salvation army or St. Vincent De Paul, or any other charity you may have in the area.

There are state resources available, depending on what state you live in. You should contact you local DHR and ask about their holiday projects for needy families. I hope this helps. God Bless.
