I haven't watched television consistently in two years; we don't have an antenna, not that it matters anyway, and I am not paying for television when there is "never anything on". The only time I see a television is when I am in a public venue and the television is on -- which is just about everywhere these days.
Now I do watch DVDs, use my computer, and use the television I own for video games. I even have seen television shows on DVD recently, so I'm not quite sure if I qualify, because I am getting the input that televisions output. Personally, however, not being addicted to a weekly series is freeing, especially since I think about the time I spent thinking about that show.
Television is meant to numb the mind (better than religion, it is Karl Marx's true "opiate of the masses"). Without television, I don't feel I have no time or wonder where the time went to as often. Without television, my boredom factor is lower.
This is just me, though, and, as I said, I'm not sure that I qualify because I do use my television and I have been exposed to television in public places.

I am a much more positive person. I am more active around teh house and actually I am more involved in my community and with freinds. TV stinks, there is nothing to watch that isn't overtly desensitizing with violence, chock full of racism and sexism and it only speaks to the base intellect. TV as far as I am concerned is a wasted invention because all of the good it could do has been wasted on stupid entertainment like reality shows. This isn't a phenomenon exclusive to the US either. I spent may weeks watching Baywatch while in Uganda - east africa. I have a much more fulfilled life without TV. Also you can't convince me that there are not subliminal messages in some of those shows or commericials.

After 13 years of not having a TV, I've noticed:
-The people that looked young 13 years ago have really aged.
-More Southern accents on commercials and shows than 13 years ago
-There is less concern about being "P.C." than 13 years ago.
-There is a very noticeable emphasis on beauty, sex and youth over wisdom.
-Reality shows seem to dominate t.v.
-It is hard to turn off the TV. Especially forensics and shows about dogs.
-I watched tv from the hotel when I went out of town. We still don't have tv.

NO change for I rarely watched in the first place. However at bed time I read more books long into the night rather than the tv.

I am delighted to be one of those people. I found time that I never knew I had. Time to be with my man and my children. Time to catch up on my reading and to enrich my life by learning something new.
When I met my fiance seven months ago, he did not watch TV and, in fact, did not subscribe to TV at all. He used all of his time to better himself intellectually and physically.
I can honestly tell you that I don't miss the damned thing at all! Sure, we will watch a movie occasionally on DVD, but no commercial TV - and no commercials. We get our news online. The time I've gained in my life is amazing. I sleep better because I no longer stay up so late to watch the TV. I'm outside more now, learning to sail and just being conscious of life around me instead of sitting and watching it go by.

i don't know if i'm the best one to answer this question but i rarely ever watch tv. i really don't watch tv at all. this is because i have too many things to do and i prefer to listen to my radio rather than watching my tv. it really hasn't changed my life. i just get more stuff done and get more sleep that way.

i've gone thru periods of my life where i've lived without t.v......you really dont' miss it if you keep busy in other ways....my husband and i watch ALOT of t.v. and truly i'd rather do just about anything than watch t.v. most of the time......when you live without t.v. you do alot more socializing and spend more time on hobbies....but i've never noticed a difference in moods or thoughts when i went without t.v.
