I wouldn't be able to live with the guilt. I couldn't enjoy spending the 50 bucks if I knew I had stolen it. I'd give it back.

Unearned wealth is among the greatest vices of humanity, but several questions substantially affect my response to this scenario. Do I know the person? How much effort will it take to return the money? I may charge a "handling fee" if the person proves a little too difficult to track down. Is the person running from me or evading me? Most importantly, is the person my friend or my enemy?

Generally, I only accept money which I earn, but I am not above using my enemy's money in a war against him. If Osama bin Laden dropped $50 on the ground, I'd pick it up and dedicate it to the War on Terror (after I attempted to drop Mr. bin Laden to the ground with a volley of "lead").

That happened to me. My wife and I went outdoors, and I saw the equivalent of a $50 bill on the sidewalk I ran after the couple that had just passed and asked them to check if they had just dropped some money. They looked at me strangely, and said " no, no" in a tone that said "go away and leave us alone!"
Well it was very convenient, as it wa a moment when we needed that money!

If I saw it fall from a person, give it back. If it was just laying there on the ground, keep it.

I would for sure give it back. I have two small children so if I dropped a fifty it was probably meant for groceries.

I would find them and give it back. Though, if I hadn't seen them drop it I would probably keep it.
