In my laptop, I have a CD/DVD driver. For whatever reason, I can't play CD's but I can play DVD's. If I put in a DVD, it picks it up and the program starts automatically.

When I put in a CD, nothing happens. If I go into the CD drive in My computer it doesn't even register anything. It's like no CD is in there. It didn't used to be like that.

From what you tell me I am fairly certain this is a software issue (meaning there is nothing physiaclly wrong with the drive).

What kind of CDs are you trying to access ? Try different types : music , data, photo , etc .... What probably happened is that the file association with certain CDs has been deactivated.

Verify all your "autoplay" options for the CD-DVD drive.

Ive also experienced this problem
And I found it to be from cheap CD's that are really nice in the neon colors but my drive wont read them
These days I only buy the better quality cd's with the silver or gold backing on them
end of problem for me!!!
