It is part of cleaning the house therefore it is considered housework. It may not take as long as other chores but it is still housework.

It's house work. It's inside of the house and it will stink up the house if not cleaned.

If I say I'm going to clean up the kitchen, it's assumed by my family that I will clean the kitchen and that includes removing the stinky trash.

I have a daughter that blasts through diapers and a boyfriend that insists on takeout a few times a week, so we... Uh, I take out the trash almost once a day. For me, it's work because I have to get someone to watch my daughter, or I have to pop her in a baby carrier, take the trash out of its cans, tie 'em up, go down a flight of stairs, then walk all the way across the parking lot, then put it in the big bin. Then I have to pop a new bag in.

Since I'm a coffee drinker, the occasional coffee ground spills from the garbage as its being taken out, so onto vacuuming that up...

Yeah, it's house work.

Chores are what you don't want to do and pay your kids to do for you. Growing up, my "chores" were to take out the garbage on Mondays and Wednesdays (Trash was Tuesday and Thursday), laundry, and unloading the dishwasher. Now that I am a mom, this is housework. I still have to take out the garbage, dust, vaccum, load and unload the dishwasher, etc. Once the kids are old enough to do some of the work w/o supervision, then they will be the kids' chores....

Sounds like an argument a husband would make to a wife or a kid to a parent. Work is work but taking out trash is usually not that tough of a job.

I would consider taking the trash out harder work than dusting. it's only different because you have to do it like once a week. now here's an example to put it into perspective for you. just say you live at a frat house with 20 dudes. now, taking out the trash is damned sure to be house work now, right?

Taking out the trash is housework - not sure what else you'd consider it.

In your second statement, are you contrasting the level of effort required to clean the bathroom and the level of effort to take out the trash? I wouldn't consider them equivalent, but they are still both housework.

It's part of house work, and my friend, who is a delightful guy, has no problem with coming over, and picking my trash up when he takes his own out. It's all in a day's work, he says, no, problem. I do the same for him.

Well, yah it is a chore, but I'm with you...

Lemme guess, hubby is saying you are crazy, that he does housework too....???

I'll tell you what I learned long ago...this is a fight you will not win...anyway..if he cleaned the bathroom, he probably wouldn't do it right anyway, so you would be stuck arguing about it and then would have to do it again any way.

My hubby does some stuff but it's like he needs a medal or something.

LOL... I asked him to scrub the toilet the other day and he said, it doesn't need to be done, he did it like two weeks ago....I had to point out that I had done it 3 times since then....lol.

I wouldn't consider it house work. Not in the sense that you are cleaning something in the house. It would fall under the category of "chores" as far as I'm concerned.

Taking out the trash is seen as house work to my son or ex. I believe it to be a chore. I also believe it to be the man's job if there's one in the house.
