Bloody show comes the lining of your cervics thinning out. the more you thin out the closer you are to having baby. I lost mine with my first but not my second he came out in fifteen min.

Usually the bit of blood in the mucous indicates that the cervix is already beginning to open.
BTW...You probably already know this, but just a warning for all who read this: If there is any more blood than a tinge, call your doctor. If you actually ever have drips of red blood, go to the hospital immediately. Can be very serious AND LIFE-THREATENING.
Yours sounds perfectly normal. I've had seven natural childbirths, and delivered over 30 babies (I'm a lay-midwife). Each and every labor, even of the same woman, is a little different, can start different and proceed at different rates. Who knows why???
Best of luck with your labor and wonderful new baby! Lucky you!

Hoorah! I bet you're happy to hear things are starting to happen!
My daughter the midwife (who is also about 4 days overdue!) says that your doctor's office is probably right, especially since this is a second baby.
I never had it, either, so it would be new to me.
According to "what to expect when you're expecting" _ --
If you’ve experienced the bloody show, you can usually expect to go into labor within the next several days — unless you’re a fast starter, in which case you could be going into labor within the next several hours. (Nice and predictable, right?) In general, though, bloody show means you can hurry up and wait. And you won’t know for sure that labor has arrived until you feel those first real contractions. So when you see that bloody show, get ready — but don’t head out the door just yet."
What you should be doing is this: make sure you're ready to go -- bag to take to the hospital, spouse/coaches notified, lists in hand, and stuff to go into the freezer for fast meals made. Then you should keep an eye on how heavy it gets.
"What to expect" says:
"If it seems heavy (more than two tablespoons) or turns bright red, contact your practitioner ASAP. Bleeding could be a sign of placenta previa or placenta abruption, both of which require immediate medical attention. "
So, in general, it's a good sign that things are getting in motion. Like all the other symptoms, there are things you can watch out for to make sure things are normal (and mostly, they are).
Happy end of the road, and on to new adventures!

im not sure why exactly...i think the blood just tends to mean there are more changes to your cervix taking place then if you just loose the plug with no blood...i actually lost my plug w/ no blood about 4 weeks ago...i am now 39.3 weeks pregnant...and still no baby...however i have had some small bouts of spotting and just yesterday and today i have been having thick whit discharge...so i hope it will be soon...i wish you luck...looks like we will be mommies soon...

With my son I had him a week after I lost my "plug". With my daughter I never even noticed that I had lost it! Everyone is different. Good luck to you!
