Im pretty sure when i was dumping my cat into the river near me, that a monkey swam by on the far bank.side. He was wearing arm bands though and one of those rings with a ducks head on the front.. Hope it helps...

Monkeys usually avoid water but they can swim if the situation calls for just like if they are avoiding a predator. Debrazza guenons Cercopithecus neglectus, Allen’s swamp monkeys Allenopithecus nigroviridis, and proboscis monkeys Nasalis larvatus can swim. They may swim across a stream or river to avoid predators or get to food. Monkeys also try to swim for curiosity and new experience sake.☺

Some types can some can't, there's so many variations you'd have to give the precise type of monkey you're referring too.
