Vette's and VW's are copying the style. Jeep Wrangler owners of any year, be it a CJ or Rubicon always wave or beep to one another. It's just the Jeep thing. All other cars who do it pretty much felt left out, lol. j/k. But get used to it and wave back, Jeeps Rule!

It was just a Jeep thing. I don't get it either but I guess you're part of the family now or something. Back in the day I had an old CJ-5 and all of the CJ-5 would wave back and forth but most CJ owners would ignore the wranglers.
It's the same thing with motorcycles. They all wave too but if you are on a jap bike and you wave to a Harley rider, some of them won't wave back.
Just wave back and be cool.

The Jeep wave is part of the Jeep culture, just enjoy it and wave back :).. Here's a great article on the "rules" of the Jeep wave:

VW bug owners do it too. It is because you see someone who has something in common with you. Lots of Bug or Jeep owners are in car clubs too, so it may be that someone sees you and waves thinking you may be in the car club.
