I am going to a top California junior college, enrolled in very academically challenging classes and hold a 4.0. I'm 19 and will be finishing my 60 transferable units this summer. UC Berkely has accepted me, but I'd like to try for Stanford or ivy league.

First -- congratulations on getting into Berkeley (note the spelling -- there is an extra 'e'). It is considered one of the best universities in the world.

Most of the top schools that are not State schools will accept some transfer students. They are usually very picky about them. Your chances are better is you come from a school that is highly ranked and have a reason for wanting to leave. For example, if you spend a year at a liberal arts college & decide you want ot be an engineering student -- they will realize that you must transfer to a school that has an engineering program. On the other hand, if you are majoring in English -- they would know that you are not transferring for a very different reason.

Stanford does allow some transfer students. You will find a link to their FAQ below.

I found an article in the Harvard Crimson that said that Harvard usually accepts 35-50 transfer students per year, but accepted 75 last year. Those that they interviewed all came from highly rated universities or liberal arts colleges (e.g., Washington University, Grinnell College) -- so I think your chances at Harvard are slim.

Yale allows transfers -- but it looks like they might not accept all your credits. I've included a link below.

Stanford does accept transfers. I'm also a student at a California junior college also, and i've looked at the requirements for transfering to Stanford before. I didnt look at Harvard and Yale because i have no interest in going there. I think Harvard and Yale do accept transfers, but i imagine it wont be a lot because a lot of top high school students apply there.

I suggest taking a look at University of Pennsyvania. They accept more transfer students than Harvard and Yale and UPenn is also an ivy league school.

Stanford does, but they can be very particular about what courses they accept. In many cases they want you to take fundamental core courses from them. Not sure if the motivation is $ or academic.

UC's accept most if not all courses from Jr. Colleges, whereas private schools are more select in what they accept.
