"Do you Speak American?" It is a great book that discusses accents from all backgrounds from all over the country: From Maine, all the way down the eastern seaboard, to the midwest, the bayou, into Texas, and to the west coast. All backgrounds are covered. from dialects that are dying to the dialect that most american's speak (you will be suprised).

From that Bostinian Accent, to the different forms of NY speak, the internet slang and influence on mainstream english, to Pittsburghese, down to the southern accents to different styles of african-american dialect, to the hispanic influence on english in the southwest, to california and the surfer lifestyle, to Microsoft's HQ in washington state and how they are devloping cars that can talk, and more!

It accompanied a tv show on PBS by the same name so if you'd rather watch it, you can either buy the book or the program.

I watched it on tv and own the book. Both are execptionally well done!
