The company probably has it locked out to prevent excessive bandwidth use, illegal file downloading, and virus' associated with unauthorized files.

There are ways to get around it, but there is a reason they don't allow it. If every employee downloaded whatever they wanted, it could reek havoc on the network.

Is it really something you need to do AT WORK? It's a good way to get fired. They could document every place you visited and every file downloaded to justify terminating you, which looks really bad when applying for another job!

Just bring in CD's or your Ipod to listen to your music. They are paying you to work, not download music - especially if it's illegal file sharing! Remember - it's the company's equipment and internet connection and they make the rules. Download from home!

You would be quite dumb to download music from work if you aren't in with the bosses. That would be instant grounds for termination and your network admin will catch you doing it. I wouldn't even attempt it.

You don't need FTP to download music. There are many sites that have links to files, but as far as a library of different songs, I don't know. I don't download music
