Bunk. Pure and simple. You want to give her a pass because she's a hottie. She broke the laws, plain and simple and should be punished accordingly. No different than if you changed their gender from a female teacher to a male teacher and from a male student to a female student. A crime was committed.
The double standard in this case sickens me no end. She was a person of authority and had the trust of the school board. She broke that trust as well as the law.

A crime was committed because he was under the age of consent. If you think the age should be lowered, then that's another story.
The national age of consent in Japan is 13, but in practice it is much higher as local ages of consent are usually much higher--around the 16-18 age range.
Does a 14 year old boy know what sex is? I would hope so, but just knowing what something IS doesn't make you qualified/ready to do it. A three year old can drive a Fisher Price Power Wheels jeep with a gas pedal, brake pedal, shifter and radio but that doesn't mean a three year old is ready to drive a car.
And knowing how to use a condom and being old enough to deal with the consequences if it fails are two different things.
Then, there's LaFave's age. Two 14 year olds together is one thing, but she was 25 and in a position of authority over him. That's just wrong.
Think about it. Why wasn't she sleeping with guys her age? or even 21? 18? 17? No, she chose a child.
They should lock her up. If the situation was reversed and it was a male teacher/female student the teacher would be doing jail time.

By the definition, she has committed a paedophilic act. Would some of your responders be so enthusiastic if she were male?
I'm minded that male children are supposed to be much less mature than female children of the same age. That being so, and I accept that it is, is her crime not more despicable than had she been a male teacher having sex with a 14 year old female pupil?
There is seldom sense in this forum, and I expect none now - specially from the male "phwooar it should have been me" brigade. I'm pleased tp note that some have thought beyond the "lucky 14 year old son-of-a b***h" stage. Equal before the law assumes that jurors will acknowledge the belated fact that some women abuse some children, and should receive condign punishment. I personally hope that she suffers as much as any male would were the situation reversed - though I doubt she will.

It is a crime. I mean, by the legal standpoint, yes she commited a crime. However, the idea of consenual sex is always up for debate. When I was 14, I knew was sex was but I was still in that "yikes that looks painful stage" but for boys, I'm sure its completely different. LaFave definitely has some psychologial issues, especially being a teacher. Nobody will know exactly what happened other than the boy and LaFave.

If any adult has a sexual relationship with a child under the legal age of consent then they are committing a crime.
My question back to you is would you feel the same if it was Dennis LaFave knocking off a 14 year old girl?!?!

she should be hung at least three times because she didn't look me up, surely I could beat a 14 yo. with no experience.
Seriously, the age of consent has always been 14 y,o, until about 25 years ago, so in essence the gov, is saying people are getting dumber instead of smarter??? there were many many marriages at 14 and there were seldom divorces , now the legal age is 18 and over 60%of marriages fail?? don't you think the gov, has intruded into our lives to much and we need to get them out and let them have jurisdiction over only the 3 things the constitution granted them espionage, counterfeiting, and interstate commerce, and make them rescind the interpretation the Kennedy's forced on our people.in the commerce clause,

She definitely committed a crime (it's written into law). If she did anything wrong, I don't know. It didn't seem that bad to me. I thought Matt Lauer was acting like a nun when he interviewed her. "You don't see anything WROOONG with that???", he would say.
I don't think I'm into lowering the age, though. You'd have 50 year olds and 13 year olds going at it. I don't think that's necessarily wrong, but try convincing that to the country. The teacher was in her EARLy 20s when it happened.
