I think that gays are born the way they are. I do not think they are freaks or deserve to be punished or treated differently from anyone else.

As of yet there is no scientific evidence. Don't kid yourself though, as we speak there is a study being conducted to try and find the gene that me produce the predisposition for homosexuality. This would be a sad day because people might have the option of aborting the gene during pregnancy, destroying the gene after pregnancy. Ask yourself something. If two men were on a dessert ed island from birth and didn't know any different, would they turn to each other for companionship? how would they know of the hatred that these biblethumpers preach if no one was there to inform them? hmmmmmm? Social conditioning? Why is it so far fetched to see the beauty in opposite sex falling in love but not the same sex. It's reality. It's not like there are a few hundred. The world is full of homosexuality as it it heterosexuality. People need to get over it! '-)

Actually there are several 'scientific' factors that lend to the theory of 'why' people are gay. The most accepted is very simply that women that are exposed to excessive testosterone in utero, and men that are not exposed to as much testosterone in utero, are more likely to be gay. There are a variety of other factors of course. There is also a small percentage of the gay community that has 'chosen' to be gay due to a variety of reasons. Usually because of a bad experience with heterosexuality. The majority however, were never attracted to people of the opposite sex. The idea that *all* gay people have *Chosen* this is inane. Most would find it far easier to be heterosexual. Heterosexuals have more rights and more freeedom, less judgement and less intolerance to deal with. All of that said... why would anyone choose to make attraction and love about nothing more than body parts? When it's all said and done, we fall in love with a person, not that persons 'parts'.

The short answer is: We dont know.

The long answer: There are many theories, many of which have some circumstancial evidence, but no "silver bullet" answer. A common tendency of siblings, especially identical twins, to be homosexual has lead to a theory of genetics. However, no single loci has been isolated. And for those who understand behavioral genetics, they know its unlikely for any loci to be isolated even if there is a genetic basis to homosexuality.

Another theory is womb development. A child is more likely to be gay depending on the number of older siblings. A "used" womb and older motherhood is a more permissible environment for a number of things, including viable zygotes with chromosome abberations. One leading womb development theory focuses on timing of hormone release. Boys and girls are basically the same genetically, the y-chromosome does little. But hormone release times control much, especially in the brain. A little early or late is theorized to possibly cause same sex attraction. A study of the brains of dead gays and lesbians showed an area of the hypothalamus to be more similar in size to women or men, respectively. The hypothalamus, as part of the greater limbic system, is responsible for controlling emotions.

A third theory, the exotic-erotic theory, is that little boys and girls who tend to be gender nonconformist in behavior and attitudes associate more with the opposite sex. They find the same sex as exotic, and develop an attraction to them. An interesting twist to the story is that there's a heritable corrolation in families of gender-nonconformity. Like all phenotypes, it's a mix of genes and environment.

The last possibility, the one the religious love best, is that it's a learned behavior. Some suggest child molestation, others suggest bad experiences with the opposite sex, and others yet claim the homosexual is one who has turned away from God. While there is a trend for the victims of child molesters to molest others in turn, that doesn't explain normal homosexual relationships. Likewise, "bad experiences" is unlikely to explain long-term homosexual relationships, especially among men. This last theory is by far the weakest.

So, while there are many possible origins, the important underlying theme is that nobody "chooses" homosexuality. Whether it is inborn, aquired in womb development, or aquired in childhood, nobody chooses to be gay. Trying to change it is like trying to teach a paralyzed person to walk. All they can really do is hide their feelings and force themselves into straight relationships that in the long run, cause emotional distress and tend to break up, after already having born children. This is not a healthy way to live. As a society, we should be tolerant and accepting of homosexuality, as we should be race, handicapped people, or any other minority.

Well I don't know I'm straight but I have an idea and I think women get attracted to other women is because they get more pleasure. Thats because there are a lot of fore play and if you sleep with a man then you can't get the same pleasure.

Try not to think of it as being attracted to man or woman. We are attracted to people and certain characteristics that those people have. One is not attracted to all men or all women, but only certain ones. Specifically thinking about sex, some people like penises, some like vaginas. It is just another personal preference like blonds over brunettes or tall vs. short. Why are we attracted to any given trait? Who knows?

I think they are pushed in that direction by bad experiences with the opposite sex and good experiences with the same sex while growing up. And all that stuff where boys go "eew girls" and girls go "eww boys" doesnt help either.

They should play together from an early age and not be separated and be taught to date at a very early age. In countries where they do that, the overal rate of same sex dating is extremely low.

I think it is a sexual preference that somehow got deluded during puberty. Watch my response gets bashed now. But that's my belief. The excuse people have for being gay is usually the same story: "I was a little girl trapped in a boy's body." or "I played with GI Joe when I was little." I guess we all did and our brothers played with our Barbie dolls. But at what point did we decide that a man was not attractive - a woman was; or vice versa? During puberty. When we were trying to identify, sexually, with someone.

Its a psychological deal, and they're born with it. People don't just wake up one day and say, "Hey, I think i'm going to be gay today.", it doesn't work like that. I heard that the brain of a homosexual is a lot different than that of a heterosexual.

search evidence, genes, homosexuality. If you are truely interested.
