I just read an article in Equus magazine about this. Research suggests horses are not colorblind. They can pick up on some colors better than others and they differentiate colors differently than we do. It has nothing to do with breed or eye color. I put the link below.

I've been doing some research. Horses are not color blind, they can see shades of red, blue and gray. They cannot see green. Horses have both rods and cones...the parts of the eye used for seeing color.

Horses are not colour blind, this I know because my own horse does not react to any other feed bucket but his own, which is a lurid shade of purple!
However their ability to differentiate between certain colours is limited, and it apparently varies between breed and type! I found this out by speaking to a friend who is an experienced equine opthalmic surgeon..... she would know then!
I also ride, and have kept horses for years, about thirty!, but I always hesitate to say that I know a lot about them. You can never know enough!!

No, horses aren't colour blind. However they see some colours better than others. They don't see blue and purple very well, but see green particularly well.
One thing is for sure, humans are not the only ones to see in colour. How arrogant to assume we're the only ones to have everything!

Horses are not color blind but they do not see some colors as well as humans do. They see others better than humans.
If I remember correctly they do not see red as well but are better at greens and browns. They also have a larger field of vision becasue of the placement ot their eyes.
They tend to pick up movement better than a human does too.

Horses can seen some certian colors, but not all colors. They see a lot of different grey shades and greyed out versions of the colors they see.
