They no longer make them as far as I know. I have no idea how you got one from 2003, unless they started making them again, which is possible. It is also possible that the bill is a fake.

Hm... looks like I spoke to soon. I guess they do still make them.

"Nowadays, there is a common misconception that the $2 bill is no longer in circulation. According to the Treasury, they "receive many letters asking why the $2 bill is no longer in circulation." [1]. In response, the Treasury states: "The $2 bill remains one of our circulating currency denominations. According to B.E.P. statistics, 590,720,000 Series 1976 $2 bills were printed and as of February 28, 1999, there was $1,166,091,458 worth of $2 bills in circulation worldwide." However, 'in circulation' does not necessarily mean that the notes are actively circulated, only that this is the amount that hasn't been redeemed for shredding. The Treasury states that the best way for the $2 bill to circulate is if businesses use them as they would any other denomination.

The most significant evidence of the $2 bill's reawakening would be that in 2005 alone, 61 million $2 bills were printed by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This is more than twice the number of $2 bills that were printed between 1990 and 2001."

Yes they do still make them but the public does not like them since our cash registers do not accommodate another bill in the drawer.

There are those who then think they are a "special" bill and hoard them. I hit the bank up every month and request a $100 or so of them just to get them out in circulation. I also add them to my gifts given to our exchange students when they come. They each get a collection of USA monies.

So YES they are still out there.... GO get some and use them... watch the looks on the faces you give them to.

Sure, you can buy them on eBay. Just do a search for "two dollar bill". You don't see them much anymore because they were a fad in the late 80s...but people mostly keep them for sentimental value. But sure, you can use them just like you would any other currency.

1) Yes.
2) People think those bills are rare and as soon as they get one they keep them for years.

This is called Seigniorage and it's a very good business for the United States of America (It cost a lot less than $2.00 USD to make a $2.00 USD Bill)

Yes they do and you can get them any time of the year.

If you go to Monticello (Jefferson's home and President on the $2 bill) you will get your change back in $2 bills, pretty neat :-)

Yes, they still make them, but only in December. Ask your local bank as to when they will get them in.

From Canada - nope...

I also thought they stopped production of those in the U.S. many years ago.

I have at least one of each.
