Trendmicro tries to make people think that only their software can fix the problem that they give people.

They infected my computer after them harassing me. I reenstated my protection with them but they did not upgrade me. They kept saying that I needed to pay them over and over again. When I finally told them that I was not intersted in their product anymore, they said that they knew more than norton about fixing certain things. When I opted out in their email, that is when my computer started acting chatic.

These people have been everything but professional with me.

great one, it was not a trial subscription. I paid for the full program, but only got a run around. they never did give me the full version.

As for as other av companies being in on something, that would not surprise me, and I'm not a conspiracy theorist, either.

Symantec has given me the run around on it as well. They seem to know how to fix it but they will not include an update for it. They want me to pay extra for this special case. If they already know how to fix it, then why do they need a special case? Why do I have to pay extra for what their company already seems to know how to fix?

I did a search for "antivirus vendors". Here's just one list:

http://antivirus.about.com/od/antivirusvendors/Antivirus_Vendors.htm

If your theory is correct, why would I buy any product from the company that infected my computer? As a P.O.ed consumer, I'd be contacting every other AV company and yelling, "Look what TrendMicro (or Norton, or AVG, or McAfee.....) did to my computer. Fix it and I'll buy YOUR product."

If your theory is going to work, all financial gains by all AV companies would have to go into one large pot to be shared equally. That means every AV company out there is financially tied to every other company. Because if TrendMicro created a virus "just for you" and then wanted to charge you $100 buy another one of their products to fix it, I really doubt that $100 sale to you would make a difference in their annual report to stockholders.

Your theory has also been applied to pharmaceutical companies..... that they create illnesses and diseases to sell more drugs. And to car manufacturers..... they deliberately create defective products that will have accidents so they can sell more cars. And to clothing manufacturers..... they are responsible for global warming and changing climatic conditions so they can sell more winter clothes in the south and more summer clothes in the north.

I'm not saying that antivirus companies don't create viruses. Anything is possible. I just don't think it's very probable. Not in terms of financial gain to just one company.

James, just because TrendMicro detects a virus that Norton can't doesn't mean TrendMicro has installed that infection on your machine. This happens every day.

For example - I have recommended all my friends and colleagues install a program called Prevx1 on their computers, which in most cases finds 3-4 infections which their existing security programs have missed.

It simply means it's a better program.

seems either your trial or subscription ran out and you need to renew or get the full program.
what evidence do you have that they put any virus on your pc and that it wasnt got by any other means?

added extra-----
have you tired doing a online scan with either symantec/norton?
or do you know which virus you have got?
http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/security_response/index.jsp

click the security check on right as you scroll down, window pops out and it will have security check or virus check.
it will give you file location and virus name(s) in the results page when it is finished.
when you get name you can see if theres a removal tool here
http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/security_response/removaltools.jsp

or do a search for it here,
