I hope they end the abomination that is affirmitive action, it needs to be eliminated, it is nothing but reverse descrimination. I would have virtually no chance to get a job when competing with a less qualified African-American women, not to mention College Admissions. It is sad when corporations and colleges have to recruit minority students.

Determining schools based on race would clearly be racism. I really think we need to eliminate it from education all together, it should not determine anything at all. The only way to make every equal is to stop asking. I feel the same about job applications. Race is not an appropriate question.

I am strongly in favor of neighborhood schools. Going to school with your neighbors increases the sense of community, something that America seems to be loosing. It also puts people with similar values and lifestyles together, minimizing conflict, which in turn helps kids focus on what is important, getting an education.

I'd prefer to read the briefs and hear the oral arguments first. But, if I were to spout out an opinion like just about everyone else, I'd say I'm not comfortable with a legal ruling that allows the unequal treatment of the races.

I think affirmative action is outdated and flawed, for the following reasons. Affirmative action leads to reverse discrimination.
Affirmative action lowers standards of accountability needed to push students or employees to perform better. Students admitted on this basis are often ill-equipped to handle the schools to which they've been admitted.
It would help lead a truly color-blind society. It is condescending to minorities to say they need affirmative action to succeed.
It demeans true minority achievement; i.e. success is labeled as result of affirmative action rather than hard work and ability.

As long as a school district gives equal funding and attention to each school, it shouldn't matter what the minority population of each school is like. I think the kids should go to the schools they are supposed to go to based on where they live. And if that ends up making different minority populations in different schools, that is what happens. But at the same time the school districts need to make an effort to ensure each school is equal and schools with higher amounts of minorities aren't ignored. But that is a different topic.

Oh good Lord I stopped reading that article when I got to the "we wont go to back of the bus" crap. Affirmative action is ridiculous and not needed.
You should go to whatever school you live near. Its pretty simple, why would you bus a kid ten miles to a school when he could walk to one, just because God forbid, the school near him isn't ethnically diverse. With the price of gas being what it is this is just ridiculous, what will it cost to bus these kids around for the school year?
I mean if you do not want your kids going to a crappy school, round up some of the other parents and try to change that school for the better. Or better yet, send them to private school. No one forced you to live where you live. I know alot of people who bought houses in a certain town so their kids could go to school there.
I am so sick of people whining and crying and moaning about racism. No one is racist with the exception of those crying racism every time something doesnt go there way.

A couple points that have been lost in this debate...

1. The woman who is suing didn't bother to file a petition to change her child's school for two years. Then, when she did file, it was approved. In other words, the system as it stands let her send her child to the school she wanted.

2. The system is very popular, receiving over 70% approval from parents.

AA needs to die a very quick death. It weakens companies and makes them less competitive.
