There are alot of spy cases all the time why is this one any different?

The deathbed j'accuse against the Russian president -- "You may succeed in silencing one man but the howl of protest from around the world will reverberate, Mr. Putin, in your ears for the rest of your life" -- was an instant classic. The international intrigue and radiation poisoning are, eh, icing on the cake.

This one involves Britain and Russia at a time when tensions here in Eur re Russia are mounting. Also, it is an ex-KGB with no obvious reason for the murder. It potentially involves some very high-level folks. It involves an Italian as well. There was another Russian former gov official also recently poisoned (he is or was in the hosp in Moscow). And let's not forget that now-Pres of Ukraine was poisoned just over 2 years ago- some accused Moscow at the time of involvement- nothing has ever been resolved in this case. In short, this is dynamite...

The other 2 answers are indeed good ones, but I think they miss the point.The whole crisis is over the method used to assassinate this gentleman was which radio-active iodine. Others have been found to be suffering the same and traces are being found on British Airlines planes which, could affect other people who were passengers on those planes. If not treated in time, it is deadly.
