The science is not solid on this one though a few studies show that caffein and alcohol in large amounts lower fertility. If you drink in moderate amount then you are OK, though I would say that when you suspect that you are pregnant, stop alcohol altogether.

So here's the deal. Congrats for asking the questions. First thing you should do is go to the Dr. for a checkup. They will ask you some questions, do a pap smear, all the regular stuff. They will also do a blood screen to make sure that everything is in line. You would really do yourself and your future baby a favor if you begin your prenatal vitamins immediately. This will help build the folic acid which prevents the onset of many birth defects. Read up on this. Also, drinking before you are pregnant is no big deal, but I will tell you the minute you find out you are pregnant, and you had a few glasses of wine the night before, you will panic. So although there are no problems will "getting the alcohol out," you just don't want to take the risk. My Dr. said that many miscarriages early on are due to heavy drinking before women knew they were acually pregnant. So since you are planning this out, good idea to stop. Good luck!

If you are currently trying to get pregnant then the best thing to do is try to get as healthy as possible so that you are creating a good environment for the baby to develop.

When I was trying to get pregnant, I continued to exercise, tried to eat well--whole grains, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and also, it's a good idea to start taking a prenatal vitamin daily to ensure that you have enough folic acid and other nutrients. Also, it's important to be close to your ideal weight. . .not too heavy or too thin, to improve your chances of getting pregnant. Also, stop smoking if you do. As far as alcohol goes. . .like anything else, it's fine in moderation but probably best to lay off entirely once you do get pregnant. Good luck!

Yes, it is important to stop drinking alcohol. Drinking while pregnant could cause problems for your infant during the pregnancy and after the baby's birth.

Yes, you should stop drinking if you want to become pregnant. That way it will already be out of your system. Also, think about including a prenatal vitamin and start a exercise plan, if you haven't already. Rethink your eating habits as well. I would suggest giving your body 3-6 months of this, if possible, before getting pregnant.

yes you have to stop. get a check-up done and doctor will start you on folic acid and pre natal vitamins. when you know that you are pregnant, roughly you will have 3 - 4 weeks. so you would have been all those weeks drinking. i don't think its a good idea. before this pregnancy i had a miscarraige and i did have a few drinks. i couldn't stop blaming myself. beleive me its not a nice feeling. so its best to stop.
