There should be some sort of program that is designed to help the real homeless.
As you may or may not know, many of the homeless are really not homeless they are professional panhandlers.
The local communities seem to place all homeless in the same category but seldom find any permanent solution for the problem... Blankets in the winter, forget about them in the summer!
A national standard would put government into the middle of the issue taking years to resolve... Maybe! With Luck!
Homeless issues, for the time being, need to be focused on, one issue at a time. When a workable, successful
method is found, it will spread.
I kind of like the pay it forward idea, with a twist.

No society can thrive peacefully leaving their own lesser priveleged brethern on the streets. Even as the standard of living of the most of the people change for the better, correspondingly the level of the poorest of the poor also must be taken care of. Socialism does not require any single leader's guidance, but a spontaneous uprising by the lesser privileged, whether anyone likes it or not. Welfare measures are the answers for the peaceful way in meeting the challenge and there can no two opinions on the same.

I dealt with homeless teens and many perks were available for them.
There were strict guidelines that they must follow to benefit from the perks.
Many of the teens were not willing to follow the rules. They wanted everything given to them but did not think it necessary to follow anything other than their own whims.
If a homeless person can show they are really willing to change their life and follow a few rules then I think there are places already available for them to receive help.
The street person is the one who MUST make the first effort. In my opinion.

Job training yes. Hand out no.
Most homeless people choose that life style, it isn't something that just happens to them out of the blue. It is your opinion that their life would be better if it were differant, but everyone has the right to detemine their own standard of living.

yes, of course. Look around and you will find many in your community. start volunteering or donating. you can make a difference. if something "should" exist, then maybe you have some responsibility to create it instead of waiting for someone else to make it happen.
you must realize many of the homeless are plagued by mental illness or substance addiction problems.

Did someone actually say that "most homeless people choose that lifestyle"? Are you serious? They choose to live on the street and eat out of dumpsters? You should have been killed at birth, you are the antichrist....
