Make your own decorations!
Gather branches and put together your own wreath, then buy some cheap ribbon at Wal-Mart to make a bow! Wal-mart also has lots of cheap, cute decorations.
Have children?
Get them involved in decorating, have them make a santa, deer, presents, xmas tress etc with their play dough and let it dry and set them out.
Good Luck and be crafty!

Bows are a great addition.
Another idea: string popcorn. THis can be fun and is an old tradition.
If you know someone who lives in the country, you can ask to cut a limb off of a pine tree on their property.. no cost for christmas tree.
Paper snowflakes strung together or hanging from the ceiling are nice.
Also try the dollar store. Some of their decorations are nice and inexpensive.
A friend of mine used to wrap the pictures throughout her house in wrapping paper to look like hung up christmas presents. It was adorable when a bow or two was added.
You may find that the inexpensive decorating, becomes a tradition you enjoy as time goes on. children and grandchildren will love helping with these ideas!
Make your own christmas cards as well. Either online, or let your kids, or friend's kids decorate them. If you have kids, neices, nephews, etc, family and friends will LOVE getting the artwork, and it will be a little different than the normal christmas card.
IF kids are not in the picture, then consider christmas LETTER instead of cards. People love hearing about you more than seeing a pretty card.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

The dollar stores are getting in quite a variety of decorations. Also if you want to keep it really cheap use paper to make a tree and stick it to the wall then draw ornaments. You can also go outside and use fall colored leaves and pinecones and things like that to decorate your house. Sorry to hear your broke, hope you have a nice holiday!

sorry your budget is tight . go outside in your surroundings or to a tree lot where they have trimmed the trees for stands and they always are willing to give someone the clippings. use on yoour doors and mantle for the fresh smell of christmas. and add some cheap ornaments for color and enjoy what you have this year and be thankful that the new year will bring new things .

well, if you've got some spare time, you could decorate your house the very-traditional-way, with apples and walnuts, and white-and-red fabrics along the walls...
