no its a furtherment of a sign of weakness. we refuse to do what needs to be done and they play on that. They cant defeat us militarily so they will make it look like we are the bad guys. Just like Ho chi mihn did. Our country would rather believe the enemy than our own country. Its amazing.

and travis hit it out of the park.

You seem to have an extremely narrow view of the scope of the current conflict. Iraq is simply a battlefield, the war is one against terrorism that is being used to further the cause of fundamentalist, very anti-western ideologies.

Withdrawing in Iraq will be viewed neither as winning the war nor will it inspire more attacks. In fact, the attacks are aimed at destabilizing what is viewed as a potentially western friendly government in Iraq and they will continue until it collapses and the minority Shiite return to power. The reason that they are aimed at the international troops is because they are the ones currently acting as the security force for the fledgling democratic government.

Withdrawing now will leave the current government vulnerable and would be viewed as a significant victory. However, one must remember that the war is one over global domination of a particular ideology and it is not one that started with US action in Iraq. Those with fundamentalist ideologies declared war on the US more than a decade ago. Unfortunately, America did not take that declaration seriously. In fact, the average American does not even realize it.

That being said, I find it telling that the anti-American players in this little world drama vocally support the "left leaning" side of our political process and are very adamantly against those on the right. Could it perhaps be because the policies of ignoring the threat and avoiding conflict at all cost is helpful to the spread of anti-western ideologies while the policies of addressing the threat militarily, and/or even in a pre-emptive fashion is detrimental to the cause of those that would do us harm?

As for Iraq, we're in the process of training a police force capable of keeping the peace so that Iraq can take care of itself. We probably won't completely withdraw for a long time, but significantly less and less troops will be shipped out over the next few months. At least that's the plan anyway.

It's a matter of opinion.

You would easily see the propaganda working against the US if, we left with out any kind of resolve.

fanatical islam would claim we left in defeat and that, it was Allah's will. This could encourage and inspire Islam to buy into the fanatics point of view.

On the other hand, it sure would save a lot of American lives to just leave. No matter what the Islamic world thinks.

Most Likely. If not a surrender, maybe they will think we decided we don't care.

I hate this war, but I don't know how we can withdraw right now. We have dug a pretty deep hole for ourselves.

in Iraq clashes would intensify until one of the two (sunis or shiias) get to power and establish a radical islamic state. any of the 2 would definitely consider it a victory and it would be a shame for the US, since it would leave things worse than the way they were before the invasion.

In Afghanistan, the decrease in the presence of US forces has led to a strengthening and reagrupation of al-Qaeda, son the original stated purpose of war would be lost if US retreated.

Every time a western nation goes soft on terrorism or any related issue, recruitment increases in the radical Muslim movement. To them, it is akin to waving a white flag, so I believe the answer would be yes. The will feel emboldened. We back down at our peril.

Yes just like Vietnam. We lost because people lost heart. The military didnt lose Vietnam the American people lost it. And it will be just like Iraq and Afganistan.

the reality that many individuals do not EVEN recognize if its a defeat or victory style of scares me. i don't recognize if its a victory or defeat the two. Its extremely the two. Its a victory b/c we ultimately have been given Bin weighted down. yet its a defeat b/c it fee us like freaking 10 years and trillions of greenbacks. i think of the real question is, replaced into it rather worth it? in case you think of it replaced into rather worth it, then hell its a victory! in case you do not think of it replaced into rather worth it, then its a defeat.
