Never mind the constitution, our existing laws and culture of acceptance. A cry is going up. I see it on television, hear it on the radio and read about it everywhere. I have to say I'm horrified. American muslims contribute so much to this country. They are engineers, nurses, cab drivers, small business owners, doctors, civil servents and my neighbors. Many came here to escape religous persecution. I shudder to think how they feel when they hear the angry voices on the radio, calls racial and religous profiling at the airport. My bias is revealed, but I welcome your opinion especially those that do't share mine.

People often become afraid of things that they don't understand. I think the trick would be to give more exposure to the Islamic faith so people can understand what it is all about. Education is the key to this problem.

The only restrictions which should be placed are the same as those for any individuals or groups.
I think the problem is a public relations one.
The groups we hear about the most in the media are radical groups. These radical groups may be in the minority in the US but they are not in many Middle Eastern countries where our perception of Islam is shaped.
Moderate groups here have not been very vocal in opposition to the voices of radicals. When all you hear is one side, you start to think that is the only side there is, which is what is happening for many Americans.
Until and unless a unified voice for American Muslims (who like the USA) comes forward and repudiates the ugliness from abroad, Americans distrust of Muslims will continue to grow.
I think that is the bottom line for Americans: if you are not repudiating the violence, then you are condoning it.

I used to feel the same as you. But I learned a bit about muslims, and they aren't all radical suicide bombers. This is the land of the free. They deserve to be free, if we placed restrictions upon the islamic faith we would be no better than Hitler and his Then Nazi Germany. No, we may not kill millions of them just as he killed the jews, but in different ways, you share the same views. They are people too, they just practice a different faith. Muslims, Jews, and Christian beliefs all share a few of the same things. They are all branches of the same tree which look up to a single god. But that is just my opinion. that guy who was in super size me has a good reality show on tv. You should watch the episode when the southern christian goes north and must live with muslims and practice their faith for a month.

They, as everyone else, ARE subject to some restrictions. There is no reason that the Muslims should have their own set of rules. Murdering members of other religions is a primary part of their religion, but, no they should not be murder simply because their religious beliefs indicate that all non-Muslims must die.
America is a place for religious freedom, but not when that religion practices denying others their own religious beliefs and in the case of Muslims, the basic RIGHT TO LIFE.

If you demand a right to pray in a private room, either furnish it yourself or go where it is acceptable.
The lack of assimmilating is the main problem here. I often get the impression from many devout Muslims that *I* am the one that has to adapt to them personally - and they carry no responsibility to adapt to MY culture because it is deemed "infidelic".
If my country sucks so bad, go home and practice your religion on your holy ground, where you are in the presence of people who are like minded as you.
If you can cope with differences, and the fact that you're not going to necessarily get your way every time, *EVEN* if it is your "religious duty", then fine, let's hang out.
If you're here to make this a nation for Allah, go away.

We should not allow public call to prayer as they do in Mi. because it disturbs non Muslim's with the loud noise. I don't have a problem with profiling as it is an effective tool. If you think about it profiling is used daily by insurance companies (smokers pay higher rates, male teenagers and unmarried males pay higher car insurance etc.) and no one blinks an eye but when it is to stop terrorist people get upset. Statistically speaking most terrorist attacks involve people of Islamic beliefs.

There is going to be restriction on freedom of religon per say. But I dont think they are going to let someone pray in the middle of a plane ride how muslims pray. Or I dont think they will allow things like wearing the Burka in an airport. Little things for security reasons need to be taken into account for the safety of all. I am for things like that. America is made mostly of Christians and is a Christian nation so I dont think we should adapt to them. They need to adapt to our culture.

ppl shouldn't be restricted based on their religious choices!! That is what america was founded on RELIGIOUS FREEDOM...it's so sad that we're headed down a road of religious persecution. Just because some idiots that claim god told them to fly planes into the world trade center, we have NO RIGHT to but a label on all muslims.
