On streaming quotes, those prices are the prices for the most recent trades. Thus, the price on both sides (the buy and the sell) are the same.

However, if you look at a screen with the latest trades, you'll generally get an idea from the direction of the trades which way the buying and selling pressure was moving by the direction of the trades.

So, if you see the last couple of trades go from 3.00 to 3.10 to 3.10, it might be that the bid was at 3.00 and the ask at 3.10, and the buyer moved to 3.10 to get the stock.

Another interesting screen is the Level II quote screen. On this screen, you can see all the buy and sell orders and the prices for which those people are willing to buy/sell the shares. With this screen you can see the breadth and the depth of the buying/selling pressure on a stock.

Hope that helps!

All sells have a buyer and all buys have a seller. A buy occurs when an buying offerer must raise his offer to get a deal and likewise a sell occurs when an offering seller must lower his price to find a buyer.
