Your using of the term 'exposed' is accurate to describe the situation. It is too much that a party should be allowed to rule continuously for so long, in a democracy and reducing the opposition to nought. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, CPM requires a breather.

The protesting farmers of Singur were not fired upon but brutally beaten up with lathis. Rubber bullets and tear gas shells were used freely. Women protesters were molested and beaten up along with the menfolk. Children weren't spared either. The police used the filthiest language on that day. And this terror was perprated on innocent, unarmed and helpless people.
CPI (M) has always claimed themselves to be friends of the farmers and workers and avowedly champion their causes. The land which the Tatas have selected at Singur for there small car project (to cost 1 lakh rupees) is prime agricultural land which is tilled 2 to 3 times a year. No sane administration or government in the world would ever dream of turning over such fertile land to an industrialist to build a factory. In fact, land selected for industries are most often the most arid and agriculturally unproductive. The farmers of Singur have tilled this land for generations. Several agricultural labourers' and marginal farmers' livelihood is also linked to agriculture on this fertile tract. The government has offered a financial compensation package to the land owners in lieu of their land with scarce thought to the fate of the marginal farmers and agricultural labourers. The land owners who have or are to receive the compensation are clueless as to how to put the money to the best possible use. Agriculturists by profession over several generations, they are untrained in any other trade. The government too hasn't taken any worthwhile initiative to train them in any other trade or profession, save one or two token gestures. Chances are that many of these simple gullible people will be swindled of their fortune by unscrupulous people faster than imagined. The Tatas have made it clear that no jobs will be given to the displaced people in their small car factory. Against such a backdrop the desire of the farmers not to part with their land at any cost is understandable and justified. The farmers have the right to retain ownership of their own land and not to sell it to any private entrepreneur. The government can take over any land if it proposes to build any public utility like roads, schools, hospitals etc. on that land. A small car factory is by no way a public utility. It isn't even going to provide mass employment. More employment was provided to the common people during the agricultural season. In such a scenario, a government by a political party which champions the rights of peasants and workers should have ideally sided with the farmers of Singur. But the CPI (M) has betrayed the persons who put their lot behind the party. They have used brutal force to tame them into submission. With a huge majority in the state opposition and no worthwhile opposition, it has grown audacious. Industrialisation is the new mantra with no thought as to how the common people are going to benefit from it. Tatas are their new friends and no longer the peasants and workers. This is a party of traitors and double speak. Nobody should trust them.

In this country CPM can legitimately kill all the farmers and no will question. The UPA government in particular is ruled by communists killing farmers.

There is but a distinct link between firing on protestors in Daykuk, when there are tons of losers who would fight any day for their survival in cold blood. This is totally unforgiveable.
