Why do ppl think that arab countries are all poor and that the ppl in the arabian gulf still live in tents?

I'm an arab myself and I just get so shocked when people from abroad think that we are uneducated and still live in tents and ride camels. But what bugs me most is that we have arabian countries that are more updated than countries in Europe and the US. Many people who visit countries like the United Arab Emarates and Kuwait & etc. for the 1st time get shocked cuz we've got like starbucks at everycorner :S? cuz we've got the latest cars and the latest mobiles and the list goes on.. When i think about it more and more .. i realize that we arabs are not the ones that aren't educated, its the people who watch fake media and don't investicate for themselves who are. In addition to this, its not because some arab countries have money and others don't, but there are many arabian citizens who are educated and many are smarter than people abroad. So why do you people who claim that you know everything, STILL ACTUALLY BELIEVE that we are uncivilized say this?

and answering my friend jaafar down there. first of all i'm a girl and don't ride your lebanese girls. And 2nd my grandma is lebanese too. Neway if you telling that we didn't stand up with you, Kuwait donated 2 million KD to your country to help you out :) So please don't judge ppl like others and i'm sorry that see us in that way.

I KNOW! I live in Dubai (but i am european) and most american's don't know this but it is the most modern and richest city in the world! When i go to america i bring my friends the latest phones and iopods and laptops that would only arrive there in a year! Plus, we have no war here and it is sunny all year round! The UAE is the best if you want to stay in a hotel on an island in the sea, or if you want to ski in the biggest indoor ski slope in the world (especially dubai). And another thing, one stupid friend of mine from the USA asked me if i ride a camel to school, i just told him that half the people in my country own porsches!

However, what I don't understand is why do all these Muslim immigrants come here rather than go there?

I know for a fact that most Arabs are quite cultured and well educated. One of my best friends is an Arab. And I can always discuss Islam with him, even though I'm a Christian and don't agree with Islam, but I can't do that with these immigrants here, because they get violent, unlike you Arabs. I could joke with you people and you'd joke back!? But try that with these guys?

I know you people also don't have a good opinion of these types of Muslims who are quite fanatical and ill read and lack your culture; but, the pity of it all is that you are also branded like them, because people think that you are like them.

well, its not that people are bad for thinking this some people honestly dont know because no one ever told them... People dont have to know everything about other countries. People are raised different some could care less about what you all have others care to the point they know everything. All people are not the same when it comes to this. A person can know everything and not know you all have houses and cars and things. Its because thats the last thing on their mind. when I get up in the morning I dont think hmm wonder what other countries are doing I think about mine. and really a lot of people are like that so dont worry about it...:)
