Do you WANT fish that swim on the bottom, or not?
If you do, get a school of 6 corydoras julii or 6 oto cats. They will both eat food on the bottom and will both eat sinking algae tablets.
You're right in not getting a pleco - most plecos are huge fish, and positive poop machines.

Your guppies probably would not eat the sinking algae tablets, but its not necessary. The might nibble on them a little bit but they should be fed flake fish food as a staple. If you're feeding guppies, just put in little pieces of the algae pellets. If you put too much, it'll rot.

Any fish will graze if it's hungry enough. Guppies are always hungry.

You might want to look into "surface" fish. Some fish spend more time near the top of the tank. If your tank is tall, this will be more noticeable. Surface fish have mouths that open upward. Gouramis, and hatchet fish are fairly "surfacy," in general. There are some others, but the only ones I can think of are more aggressive, and wouldn't do well with guppies.

Would your guppies eat a sinking tablet? well, they'd eat it, but they probably wouldn't be able to eat it all, because lots of the stuff would fall apart and sink into the gravel, where it would rot, unless you had real grazing fish.

you have algae growing to be. no vast deal. would not advise your lazy or merciless to your fish. I incredibly have a fifty 5 gallon tank and to slightly below 50% water replace each 2 weeks. you may take the charcoal out of your filter out and advert a chemical that is available at super fish shops that is going to kill it off without injury to your fish. you may get an algae scraper or in simple terms positioned a dismal blanket over the tank for the time of the day while the solar is shining. 10 hours is likewise slightly plenty to go away the tank lights on for.

all fish will "graze" if they are hungry and guppies never know when to stop eating, guppies are known to eat themselves to death.
